In response to a FOIA request from the Associated Press (AP), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released hundreds of pages from its files on entertainment icon Michael Jackson, from 1992-2005. Documents released show that the FBI was mindful of allegations that Jackson had molested children; Jackson's 2004 arrest also led a local police department to request FBI "involvement" because police feared the "worldwide media coverage" would inspire terrorists to take advantage of the opportunity for publicity.

Notes:

The FBI initially described its file on Jackson as consisting of about 600 pages, but only released 333 pages, citing privacy rules and investigative techniques as justifying its withholding of the remaining records.
