Summary: | A November 2008 report by the Senate Armed Services Committee, declassified in April 2009, characterized Jonathan Fredman, then a lawyer for the Central Intelligence Agency, as a central figure in the legal and policy expansion of harsh interrogation techniques from the CIA to Department of Defense interrogators. Fredman claimed that his remarks were taken out of context, but sources said the relevance of references to Fredman's role lay in the confirmation of his travel to Guantanamo for a meeting with DoD personnel, and the corroboration by "numerous" other attendees of the account of the meeting. Fredman's response came to light through a FOIA request to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he now works. | ||
